Local Recommended Restaurants

We have visited a fair amount of restaurants in the local area, so we have put together a list of the restaurants we feel able to recommend and a brief summary of why.  We hope to keep this page updated with recommendations of restaurants our guests enjoyed during their stay.

Sainte Sabine Born

Chez Edith a good local grill with a lovely outside terrace looking over the pool.  Well known in the area for good value and good food, by locals and visitors to the area.

Etincelles a Michelin guide restaurant which cooks innovative food of this region.  Pretty terrace and gardens. Not cheap but a delightful discovery menu of the Dordogne.

Issigeac

Chez Alain, now under new ownership and renamed L’Atelier (and in the Michelin guide) is a beautiful restaurant on the outskirts of the village.  The interior is stone and oak beams, and the outside terrace is stunning, shaded by the loganberry trees and parasols.  The food is good but can be expensive A la Carte. We choose the Menu du Jour for well cooked, seasonal dishes served in the most beautiful environment.

Bruceliere is another very good restaurant in Issigeac, well loved by our regular guests.

Between Villereal and Castillonnès

Monte Cristo is a pizzeria / grill / italian restaurant. Recommended by our french neighbours, it is popular with locals and tourists.  In Summer, food is cooked on an open wood fire outside and everyone eats on the terrace. If there is rain, or its just too hot to be outside there is a large bar with a pool table, table football, air hockey and video games.

Paunat, near Limeuil

Chez Julien is a bistro style restaurant set right beside the abbey of Paunat.  Meals in the summer are taken on the terrace outside the honey-coloured stone house and abbey. If you visit in the evening the abbey is lit after dark.  The food is fresh, reasonably priced and english is spoken by the very helpful staff.  Ranked no. 7 out of the 666 restaurants in the Dordogne, it is a very pleasant place to while away an afternoon.

Bergerac

Au Bureau is great if you just fancy great burgers, steaks and beer.  Based on an english style pub they sell enormous portions, and the burgers can be cooked to your liking if you prefer your meat rare.  Leffe, Stella and Hoegaarden are served in huge glasses and american style desserts finish off the huge meal for a very reasonable price.  The bars are open all day. Straight across from Bergerac cathedral.
